Cavs survive scare, Thunder and Clippers soar
The Cleveland Cavaliers maintained their 100 per cent record after seeing off the Philadelphia 76ers.
Reigning NBA champions the Cleveland Cavaliers improved to 6-0 after overcoming a stern test against the winless Philadelphia 76ers, while the Oklahoma City Thunder were too good for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Cavaliers prevailed 102-101 over the 76ers to stay perfect in the NBA on Saturday.
Philadelphia overturned an 18-point deficit to hit the front in the fourth quarter but Channing Frye hit a three-pointer with just over a minute remaining to give the Cavs the win.
The Thunder bounced back from their loss to the Golden State Warriors by accounting for the Timberwolves 112-92.
With the win, the Thunder are now 5-1 for the season.
The Los Angeles Clippers have also won five of their opening six games following Saturday's 116-92 victory at the San Antonio Spurs.
LEBRON PASSES OLAJUWON ON SCORING LIST
LeBron James stamped his mark as one of the best scorer's in NBA history against the 76ers. His first quarter basket placed him 10th on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
The four-time MVP's 26,946 points passed former MVP and two-time NBA Champion Hakeem Olajuwon. Olajuwon averaged 21.8 points per game during his NBA career which eventually ended up in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
James, who finished with 25 points and 14 assists, has averaged better than 27 points per game since entering the league in 2003-2004. He is also the only player in NBA history in the top 10 of career points and top 20 of career assists.
THUNDER WITHSTAND TOWNS
Karl-Anthony Towns heated things up in Oklahoma.
Towns scored 25 points on 10-for-14 shoots in the opening 24 minutes to lead the Timberwolves.
He finished with a game-high 33 but it was not enough to stop the Thunder.
Russell Westbrook had 28 points for the Thunder, while Enes Kanter posted 20 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double display.
FAN BECOMES $20,000 RICHER
Half-time shooting contents are always hit and miss but one Thunder fan produced the goods on Saturday.
Tony Juarez successfully nailed his shot from down town to win $20,000.
HAWKS END SKID
After back-to-back defeats, the Hawks returned to winning ways with a 112-97 victory against the Houston Rockets.
The Chicago Bulls were beaten by the Indiana Pacers 111-94, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Sacramento Kings 117-91, the Detroit Pistons eased past the Denver Nuggets 103-86 and the Orlando Magic edged the Washington Wizards 88-86.
CAN LAKERS BACK IT UP?
The youthful Los Angeles Lakers upstaged the Warriors last time out and they have the chance to make it three in a row against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. There are four other games, with the Toronto Raptors and Portland Trail Blazers in action.
