Rossi confident ahead of Dutch TT
After an epic battle with Marc Marquez last year, Valentino Rossi is confident heading into the weekend's MotoGP race in Assen.
Valentino Rossi is in search of back-to-back MotoGP wins for the first time since 2009, and the Italian is well-poised heading into the weekend's Dutch TT in Assen.
Movistar Yamaha rider Rossi rode a superb race last time out in Catalunya, finishing ahead of Marc Marquez for his second win of 2016.
The 37-year-old heads into the weekend with high confidence, buoyed by his win in Spain as well as his victory over Honda's Marquez at Assen last year.
"I'm happy because from when we come back to Europe, I was always strong, form Jerez to Barcelona. Unfortunately, in Mugello we lost some important points, but anyway we were fast," he said.
"We have to try to continue like this and Assen is one of the best tracks during the season and one of my favourites. It is also very good for a lot of riders because it is a great track.
"I think last year was one of the best weekends for me. I was able to win after a battle with Marc and also during the weekend I was strong, starting from the pole position.
"But every year is different and we arrive with a different tyre to understand and we have to be strong from the beginning and understand our potential."
Rossi and Marquez's epic battle in 2015 came down to the last chicane, with the former forced off the track after the pair touched before taking the chequered flag.
However, changes have been made to this year's layout due to safety reasons, with grass removed and extra tarmac added at the famous chicane.
"They have changed it from last year with more tarmac so for the safety I think it is better," Rossi said of the alterations.
"In the limit of the track there is a little bit of kerb on the inside and I think you have to try to stay into this limit."
Rossi sits third in the riders' standings after seven rounds, 22 points adrift of championship-leader Marquez.
