Saturday afternoon will see the 175th El Clasico take place when Real Madrid take on bitter rivals Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu. Ahead one of the most highly anticipated matches of World Football, beIN SPORTS has decided to look at both sides in detail, looking at the market values of the side to see who may have the upper hand come Saturday evening. Looking first overall at the squads, Real Madrid has 23 players registered with the league this season whilst Barca can call on 24 players for the tie. In terms of foreign stars, Barcelona lead the way with 15 players from outside of Spain compared to 12 foreign players in the Los Blancos side.
International players are a decisive factor in the buildup of any top European side, and Barcelona again has the upper hand boasting 19 full internationals in their 24 man squad. As for Real Madrid, they are slightly behind with 16 internationals in their squad.
Real Madrid does, however, have a more valuable squad in terms of monetary value, coming in at an eye-watering 743.8 million euros. The squad also is made up of recent signings Theo Hernández and Dani Ceballos who cost 27 and 14.85 million euros respectively.
Whilst the current La Liga leaders Barcelona have a squad value of 706.5 million euros. The side is also made up of club record signing Ousmane Dembélé and midfielder Paulinho who joined the side in the summer, they are worth 120 and 36 million euros alone.
Barcelona is well known for their La Masia youth academy in producing some of the best young players in recent years. However, it is Real Madrid who has the slightly younger side on average, with the squad age at 26 years and one month. Barca has a slightly older group with an average age of 27 years and 7 months.
Salaries are also an important measure of side’s financial clout, and Barcelona’s total squad salary comes in at 160 million euros per season. Whilst surprisingly Real Madrid, who have been widely considered to have outspent their Catalan rivals down the years come in with a squad salary of 136 million euros.
