Shonan Pandora wins Japan Cup
A thrilling Japan Cup was won by Shonan Pandora from Last Impact in Tokyo.
Shonan Pandora held off Last Impact to win the Group One Japan Cup over 2400 metres in Tokyo on Sunday.
Ridden by Kenichi Ikezoe, four-year-old filly Shonan Pandora came down the outside to win it by a nose to Last Impact.
Lovely Day, among the pre-race favourites, had looked set to be beaten by Last Impact before the winner came home late.
Curren Mirotic had produced an enormous frontrunning effort before losing the lead inside the final 300m.
Shonan Pandora and Last Impact are both offspring of Deep Impact, winner of the Japan Cup in 2006.
Trip To Paris, another 2015 hopeful, never threatened at the Tokyo Racecourse.
