Agnieszka Radwanska survived a major scare at Wimbledon on Thursday, the Pole saving three match points against Ana Konjuh before the young Croatian was dramatically hampered by injury at the end of their second-round contest.

Third seed Radwanska - runner-up to Serena Williams at the All England Club four years ago - looked set to follow Garbine Muguruza and Belinda Bencic in bowing out of the women's singles competition when Konjuh opened up a 5-3 lead in the deciding set.

However, after failing to take one chance to seal victory on the Radwanska serve, Konjuh spurned two further opportunities as she served for the match at 5-4. And although the world number 103 immediately broke again, she was once more found wanting on her own serve in the next game amid increasing tension on No. 2 Court.

Radwanska, who has only failed to make it past the second round on one of her previous 10 visits to Wimbledon, could not take a match point of her own when 7-6 to the good.

Yet Konjuh was ultimately beaten in cruel circumstances after rolling her right ankle as she dashed to the net and trod on the ball. The youngster surprisingly continued after lengthy medical treatment, but was clearly limited in her movement and Radwanska capitalised to finally prevail 6-2 4-6 9-7.

Earlier in the day, French Open champion and world number two Muguruza had suffered a shock loss to Jana Cepelova, while seventh seed Bencic was forced to retire from her match with Julia Boserup through injury.
