Dustin Johnson insists there has been no talk of Medinah in the build-up to the Ryder Cup and says the United States team is uninterested in past defeats.

Europe have enjoyed a stranglehold on the event for the past 20 years having won six of the past seven editions, the only blot on that record coming in 2008.

The last time the Ryder Cup took place on US soil was in 2012 when Europe pulled off a remarkable final day comeback in what became known as the Miracle at Medinah.

Davis Love III was the captain on that occasion and is once again the skipper at Hazeltine.

Johnson was questioned about those past defeats, but the U.S. Open champion - who was not involved at Gleneagles two years ago as he took time away from golf due to personal issues - insists the losses are consigned to history.

"In golf, it's one sport, and maybe a defensive back in the NFL, you need to have short memory. So we haven't talked about Medinah at all," he told a news conference.

"You know, we're looking forward to this week and these matches and this first session we have coming up on Friday morning. No talk about Medinah.

"I mean, the only thing that matters is this Ryder Cup, and going out and trying to play your best golf and get as many points as you can for your team.

"I don't think about what's happened in the past. I've just got to go out tomorrow [Friday] morning, or whenever I go out, and play, and you know, try to play my best and get a point for my team."

Team-mate Zach Johnson has played at four previous Ryder Cups but is yet to feel the euphoria of victory.

And the two-time major champion is keen to put an end to that unwanted statistic.

"I want to win more tournaments. I certainly want to win more majors or be in contention to win more majors or have the opportunity to win majors," he added.

"But yeah, if there's anything that's kind of left on the docket, it's the fact that I have not been on a winning Ryder Cup team yet. 

"I'm not suggesting it's going to be this week, because that's not the right thing to say or it's not realistic; but I like the opportunity presented this week, and I'm excited to get out there and compete."
