Perez dumps sponsor after Trump 'joke'
Donald Trump's election victory in the United States presidential race has proven that sometimes politics and sport do mix.
Mexican Formula One driver Sergio Perez has dumped one of his sponsors after it made a tasteless comment about his compatriots following Donald Trump's victory in the United States presidential election.
Trump's unexpected triumph was met with a tweet – since deleted – from sunglasses company Hawkers, which suggested Mexicans could wear its products to hide "their crying eyes...when you are building the wall".
The supposed joke referenced president-elect Trump's plans to construct a dividing wall between the USA and Mexico in a move aimed at preventing illegal immigration.
Force India's Perez was quick to fire back with a tweet of his own, which declared that he would end his relationship with Hawkers.
"Really bad comment. Today I am breaking my relationship with Hawkers. I will never let anyone make fun of my country," it read.
