Loew backs Badstuber to bounce back again
Germany coach Joachim Loew is sure Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber can recover quickly from a broken ankle, the latest in a long line of serious injuries for the player capped 31 times.
Bayern said on Saturday he had already been operated on after the training ground injury and would be out for three months, which virtually rules him out for the season.
He also had an outside hope of making Germany's Euro 2016 squad but that now looks impossible.
"It is unbelievable that Holger repeatedly suffers serious injuries.
It is very sad as recently he has been on the right track," Loew told the German Football Federation website on Sunday, hinting the centre back had been in his thoughts for June's tournament in France.
"All of us in the national team wish him a speedy recovery and an early return to the pitch. I'm sure with his morale and top attitude he will do it."
Badstuber, 26, twice hurt knee ligaments and missed the whole of the 2013-14 season as well as suffering a number of other physical problems.
His latest injury could not have come at a worse time for Bundesliga leaders Bayern, who have defensive issues with Jerome Boateng also out for several months. He will possibly miss Euro 2016 too, adding to Loew's woes.
