Brailsford hails 'most enjoyable Tour'
Chris Froome's 2016 Tour de France success was David Brailsford's favourite so far for Team Sky.
Team Sky general manager David Brailsford described the 2016 Tour de France triumph as the most enjoyable yet after Chris Froome sealed another yellow jersey on Sunday.
Brailsford, former British Cycling performance director and one of the masterminds behind Team GB's recent Olympic resurgence, has overseen victories in four of the last five editions of the Tour de France, starting with Bradley Wiggins' landmark 2012 success.
Froome this weekend became just the eighth man to win the Tour three times or more, the 31-year-old having been relatively untroubled during his steady march to glory.
And the lack of a meaningful rival to the Kenyan-born Briton was reflected in Brailsford's relaxed mood following the ceremonial sprint finish along the Champs Elysee.
"It's by far the most enjoyable Tour I think we've done," he told Eurosport.
"We used a far more aggressive set of tactics and it was fun, it was racing.
"As always, you get to this point, you see the Union Jacks and you just feel proud. It's a British success story, I like to think."
The consistency and discipline of Sky's support riders has been a key aspect of Froome's victories and the contribution of the domestiques did not go unnoticed by their boss.
"It's the best team performance we've put together," he said.
"Chris was brilliant.
"The way that the team raced this year ... it's been very, very enjoyable.
"I'm enjoying it more than I've enjoyed it before. When they cross the line you think it could be the last time but then you think, 'nah, come on, we'll go and do it again'.
"We're happy, not tired. The Olympics are coming up. A lot of our riders are riding in the Olympics, they're going to enjoy that. Then it's on to the Tour of Spain."
