Cycling champion Kenny eyes future in children's literature
Laura Kenny has designs on becoming a children's author after becoming Great Britain's most decorated female Olympian.
Olympic track cycling champion Laura Kenny has revealed an ambition to write children's books later in her career.
The four-time gold medallist - Great Britain's most decorated female Olympian - has recently written a joint autobiography with husband Jason Kenny, detailing the joint success of a couple who followed up their triumphs at Rio 2016 by getting married in September.
And it appears 24-year-old Laura, who defended her omnium and team pursuit titles in Brazil, has the writing bug.
"Personally, I'd like to do some children's books," she told Omnisport.
"I've always wanted to give back to my sport and give back to that younger generation.
"I guess you do that by being a sportsperson and by being successful - the younger generation look up to you.
"But it would be quite nice to delve into that because it would be different. It takes you out of the sporting era."
Jason, himself a six-time Olympic gold medallist in the velodrome, may welcome a venture into children's literature for Laura, admitting he finds it difficult to watch his wife competing on the track.
"Watching is much harder," he said. "I wouldn't say I worry as much because Laura tends to be 50 points clear!
"But it is much harder watching - there's no doubt about it."
Laura, referencing the torment she endured during Jason's drawn-out keirin victory in Rio, added: "It was quite nice to hear how Jason felt when I was racing and then, on the other foot as well, I think most people saw how I felt when Jason was racing the keirin, but it was quite nice to hear both sides of it."
