PCB questions three players in PSL corruption probe
Mohammad Irfan, Zulfiqar Babar and Shahzaib Hasan have been questioned by the PCB, but all three are free to continue playing.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed three players have been questioned as part of a continued anti-corruption investigation related to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
On Friday, Pakistan internationals Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were provisionally suspended under the PCB's anti-corruption code.
The PCB said the bans of Sharjeel and Latif were "part of an ongoing investigation into an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the Pakistan Super League".
A further statement on Saturday - titled PCB ACU (Anti-Corruption Unit) inquiry update - confirmed Mohammad Irfan, Zulfiqar Babar and Shahzaib Hasan, who have all represented Pakistan, had been spoken to by the PCB ACU. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by the trio and they have not been subjected to suspensions.
The PCB's statement read: "The Pakistan Cricket Board's anti-corruption unit is continuing with inquiries to root out corrupt practices and to safeguard and protect the integrity of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
"As a part of the investigations Mohammad Irfan was also questioned. He does not face any immediate suspension. PCB's ACU has also questioned Shazaib Hassan and Zulfiqar Babar. They will continue to play the PSL.
"PSL chairman Najam Sethi emphasised that 'the ACU will remain vigilant and continue to protect the PSL from the menace of corruption'."
Sethi subsequently tweeted: "No more player suspensions are envisaged during PSL PROVIDED there is no NEW cause for action.
"Failure to promptly report any attempt to corrupt and subvert PSL will be cause for action.
"Media should stop speculation. Players should relax, play the game and bring joy to millions of fans at home and abroad."
