Kohli blasts India's worst batting display in years
India's batting against Australia was the worst they have produced in the last two years, captain Virat Kohli said.
Virat Kohli bemoaned what he described as India's worst batting performance of the last two years after they were hammered in the first Test with Australia in Pune.
After a damaging first-innings collapse, India were set a mammoth target of 441 by the tourists in their second innings and again quickly folded with the bat, Steve O'Keefe taking six wickets for the second time in the match to skittle the hosts inside three days.
Captain Kohli has been in sensational form recently, becoming the first man to score double centuries in four successive Test series this month, but he could only manage 13 runs across the two innings.
Australia's 333-run triumph ended a run of 11 Tests without a win in Asia for Steve Smith's side.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kohli said: "Australia were much better in all three days, there's not much we can take from this, take it on the chin. [We were] not good enough on any of the three days.
"I think that's probably worst batting display in last two years, both innings, it doesn't happen too often. We have to sit down, think about what went wrong, hold our heads high. There's a lot of cricket to play.
"We know Pune is generally low and slow going to be dry, they exploited it better than us, didn't give us anything to get away with. Credit to them, they played really good cricket and played better than us throughout.
"We've had two really bad sessions and to pull it back against a quality side is very difficult. No excuses. Sometimes, you have to take your hat off and tell the opposition well done."
