Kohli and India targeting series whitewash
After easing to victory against West Indies in the first Test, India are eyeing a perfect series away from home.
Determined to create a winning habit, India captain Virat Kohli said his team-mates have their eyes on a series whitewash against West Indies after easing to victory in the opening Test.
India flexed their muscles in Antigua, winning by an innings and 92 runs thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin's seven-wicket haul on Sunday.
After reaching 566-8 in their first dig via Kohli's double century and Ashwin's hundred, the touring Indians never looked back, dismissing West Indies for 243 and 231 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
And India have no intention of resting on their laurels, with in-form skipper Kohli saying afterwards: "If we have a chance to win 4-0, then why not. We don't need to get complacent. If we end up getting a 2-0 lead, it's not that we're playing for a draw in the next two Tests.
"We want to create winning habits, good habits. And you know, winning is contagious. As we know, if we learn to win Test matches, then we'll learn how to win Tests everywhere.
"We will learn how to play in different situations and we will know exactly what to do when a certain situation is going a certain way.
"That's what we need to do. We need to look at every game as a fresh game and execute our plans and win as a team. Everyone is looking to contribute and that's the most important thing with this team.
"I certainly feel very positive going forward with the way we have played. Even before the Test matches we were really eager to begin the Test match because we had such a long practice period and preparation was really good. I could see the hunger of people wanting to go on the field and 'now's the time to do what we have practiced' so... we just want to continue doing the same."
As for West Indies captain Jason Holder, he lamented the performance of his bowlers in the first innings.
"India put up a pretty good first innings total, we didn't bowl well. It's a daunting task chasing 566," he said.
"We had some good performances, [Kraigg] Brathwaite and [Shane] Dowrich. Didn't get enough partnerships. Have to bowl better, Shannon [Gabriel] bowled very well, [Devandra] Bishoo was decent, but have to bowl well for longer [than we did here].
"We'll see the conditions in Jamaica and then see the combination. Not too sure of the pitch there. Just think we need to see what happens. Normally its flat. Hard to predict conditions in the Caribbean of late."
