Moises Henriques led the way with 64 and then a super-over masterclass to power Sydney Sixers into the Big Bash League final at Brisbane Heat's expense at the Gabba.

Tied on 167 runs after 40 overs, the sides were sent to a super over, where Henriques bested Brendon McCullum in a battle of big-hitting captains.

The Sixers were also involved in the previous two super overs in BBL history. This was their first win.

In truth, the visitors ought to have chased down their target with ease after Henriques and Dan Hughes (46) had put them into a position of strength, but a lower-order wobble and a superb death over from Ben Cutting (1-14) ensured extended drama.

After Henriques hit two sixes and a four in an imposing over worth 22 for the Sixers, McCullum was unable to live up to his billing as cricket's premier power hitter, the BBL's top wicket-taker Sean Abbott backing up match figures of 4-40 by limiting the Kiwi and Cutting to 15.

Perth Scorchers await the Sixers in Saturday's final at the WACA. The previous game between the two sides at the SCG was a low-scoring affair that saw Sydney chase down 131, and this win on enemy territory will boost confidence further.

HENRIQUES' HEAVY HITS WIN IT

The Sixers skipper was superb in anchoring their innings, blasting 64 off 34, before nerves were set jangling by his lower order.

The bare numbers belie an impressive calmness to the knock, though, with the skipper taking 10 deliveries - scoring just 11 runs - to get to grips with a two-paced Gabba track before kicking off an onslaught with three fours in the space of four Mitchell Swepson (1-31) deliveries.

Colin Munro faced up in the super over, a tactic of running byes helping tick the score over and get Henriques on strike for two monstrous hits over long on and a final-ball hook that put the Heat under pressure.

WHAT ABBOTT THAT THEN

Abbott took his tally of scalps to 20 with a three-wicket final over of the Heat's innings, and he returned in style with a crafty super over.

Far from overawed by the presence of McCullum 22 yards away, Abbott bamboozled the Kiwi with a slower bouncer to open up before limiting the big-hitter's opportunities with a consistent length.
