Guptill returns for New Zealand
New Zealand's struggling top order has been boosted by the return of Martin Guptill for the fourth ODI against South Africa.
Martin Guptill will return from a hamstring injury for New Zealand's fourth one-day international against South Africa.
The powerful opener has missed the first three encounters of the five-match series after suffering a recurrence of hamstring problems that have dogged him in recent months.
South Africa won the sole Twenty20 clash, which Guptill missed and hold a 2-1 lead in the 50-over series, thanks to a 159-run hammering in Wellington on Saturday, which saw the hosts bowled out for just 112.
Guptill's replacement at the top of the order, Dean Brownlie, has managed scores of 31, 34 and two in the series so far. Fellow opener Tom Latham's top score so far is two, he has been dismissed for a duck twice.
Jeetan Patel is also back in the squad for the Black Caps ahead of the fourth game in Hamilton, a decision prompted by the expected conditions at Seddon Park.
Selector Gavin Larsen said: "We saw in the opening ODI that Seddon Park had something in it for the spinners and we want to be well-covered should it be a similar situation this time around.
"We already have two spinners in Mitch [Santner] and Ish [Sodhi] within the squad, but Jeetan provides a different set of skills again. He's experienced and his quality is well known."
