Gillespie interested in Australia selector role
With chairman of selectors Rod Marsh set to step down in 2017, Jason Gillespie has put his name forward as a potential board replacement.
Jason Gillespie has thrown his hat into the ring to replace Rod Marsh on Australia's board of selectors.
Chairman of selectors Marsh will step down when his contract expires in June 2017, ending a three-year stint in the role.
Gillespie left his role as coach of Yorkshire, who he guided from the second division to successive County Championship titles, in September and will lead Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming Big Bash League.
However, the 41-year-old, who made 71 Test appearances for Australia, has his eyes on a return to the national team in a senior role.
"There is a national selectors' job up next year and I might put my name up for that," he told the Adelaide Advertiser.
"All I have done the last five years is select teams for Yorkshire. In county cricket you are always selecting teams. The buck stops with you. I wouldn't rule anything out.
"It was a tough decision to leave Yorkshire but the time was right for family and my career moving on.
"I will put my energy into the Big Bash with the Strikers, see what happens. I guess I am open to offers."
