Canelo dominates Chavez in one-sided bout as Golovkin watches on
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr looked out of his depth as all three judges scored the main event 120-108 in favour of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
It was straightforward and convincing for Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, who outboxed and dominated fellow Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on his way to a unanimous victory.
Chavez looked completely out of his depth in Las Vegas on Saturday as all three judges scored the main event 120-108 in favour of Canelo in the all-Mexican showdown.
The middleweight bout went the full 12 rounds but there was only ever going to be one winner on Cinco de Mayo weekend as Canelo improved to 49-1-1.
Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin was a notable onlooker ringside as he eyes a blockbuster meeting with Canelo.
And it was a one-sided affair from the opening bell, Canelo working Chavez (50-3-1) around the ring with limited response from his opponent – the son of iconic Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez.
Canelo landed punches at will and cut up Chavez in the third round as the latter made little impact.
It got worse for Chavez after boos rang around as the 31-year-old struggled to fight back in Nevada.
Canelo was unable to knock down Chavez but he done enough to emerge triumphant.
