Carreno Busta battles back to down Fognini
For the second time in 2016 Pablo Carreno Busta was crowned a champion as he lifted the Kremlin Cup with victory over Fabio Fognini.
Pablo Carreno Busta overcame a thigh injury to secure a second ATP Tour title of his career by beating Fabio Fognini at the Kremlin Cup.
Sixth seed Carreno Busta struggled in the opening exchanges in Moscow but came battling back from a set down to claim a 4-6 6-3 6-2 triumph.
Fognini looked the more likely with a dominant opening set that went the Italian's way in just 33 minutes - the quickest of all three sets on Sunday.
He was unable to maintain that momentum, though, as Carreno Busta came fighting back to lead 4-1 in the second before suffering his injury.
After a medical timeout, the Spaniard returned with heavy strapping around his right leg, and it worked a treat as he closed out the second set to level the match.
The decider should have been close but Fognini could not match his rival as Carreno Busta broke twice to add this tournament victory to his Winston-Salem win in August.
