Seahawks, Cowboys come up short in division-clinching scenarios
The Seattle Seahawks were crushed as Russell Wilson was intercepted a career-high five times in a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys both had a chance to clinch their respective divisions in the NFL, but neither did.
Seattle were blasted at Lambeau Field as Russell Wilson was intercepted a career-high five times in a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The Cowboys saw their 11-game winning streak snapped at the Meadowlands as the New York Giants completed the season sweep with a 10-7 win.
The Miami Dolphins gave the Seahawks an opportunity to clinch the NFC West by beating the Arizona Cardinals 26-23 in a downpour.
Miami also prevented the New England Patriots from being able to clinch a playoff spot if they beat the Baltimore Ravens on Monday.
Also working against the Patriots clinching in week 14 was the Pittsburgh Steelers' 27-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
The Ravens need to win to keep pace with the Steelers in the AFC North, while the Packers kept their post-season hopes alive after winning their third consecutive game to keep the pressure on the Detroit Lions on the NFC North.
Detroit beat the Chicago Bears 20-17, the Carolina Panthers defeated the San Diego Chargers 28-16, the Philadelphia Eagles lost 27-22 to the Washington Redskins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers edged the New Orleans Saints 16-11, the Atlanta Falcons crushed the Los Angeles Rams 42-14 and the Houston Texans trumped the Indianapolis Colts 22-17.
The Cincinnati Bengals were 23-10 winners over the Cleveland Browns, the Minnesota Vikings accounted for the Jacksonville Jaguars 25-16, the Denver Broncos went down 13-10 to the Tennessee Titans 13-10, while the New York Jets outlasted the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 in overtime.
BECKHAM BOOSTS GIANTS OVER COWBOYS
Odell Beckham Jr. gave the Giants a 10-7 lead late in the third quarter with a 61-yard touchdown and nobody was going to catch him.
Redskins running back Chris Thompson lifted Washington to a 27-22 win over the Eagles with a 25-yard touchdown run out of the two-minute warning.
STAFFORD LEADS LIONS BACK AGAIN
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford led a game-winning drive for the eighth time this season.
Stafford scored on a seven-yard run with less than four minutes remaining to give the Lions a win over the Bears. Stafford has now led eight game-winning drives in the fourth quarter this season, the most by a quarterback in a single campaign since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger.
The Lions (9-4) have won five straight games, their longest win streak since winning nine in a row from 2010-11.
BELL TAKES TOLL ON BILLS
Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell had a monster day, rushing for a franchise-record 236 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 62 yards for 298 yards from scrimmage. He now has 1,616 scrimmage yards in 10 games this season, the second-most in a player’s first 10 games of a season.
Cleveland Browns Hall of Famer Jim Brown had 1,704 scrimmage yards in his first 10 games in 1963. Bell also joined Brown as the only players in NFL history with at least 225 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns and 50 receiving yards in a single game.
Bell led the Steelers to the win over the Bills and it was the 100th victory in the career of head coach Mike Tomlin. The Steelers are the first NFL franchise to have three head coaches in its history reach 100 regular-season wins: Chuck Noll (193), Bill Cowher (149) and Tomlin (100).
RYAN'S DAYS NUMBERED?
Bills coach Rex Ryan on whether he deserves to remain Buffalo's coach: "What do you think I'm going to say? You're dang right I do. It hasn't gone exactly the way I wanted it to go, that's obvious. But we have three games left and we'll try to win every one of them."
Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib on Titans receiver Harry Douglas' low hit on Chris Harris: "It was a dirty play by a sorry player. He didn’t do nothing coming into this game. He didn’t catch no passes. He comes into this game and chops guys in the back... He got the same agent as me so when I see his ass in Atlanta I’m going to beat his ass. He tried to do something dirty so that’s why I’m going to beat his ass."
