Hayne still has future with 49ers
Despite his struggles in his first NFL season, Jarryd Hayne still has a role to play with the San Francisco 49ers.
Jarryd Hayne may not have played his final game for the San Francisco 49ers.
San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke said he and the team are pleased with the code-switching Australian and optimistic about his future with the franchise.
Hayne made some big plays during the pre-season and featured in the 49ers' first six games, registering eight carries for 25 yards and returning eight punts for 76 yards.
However, he saw limited action during the remainder of the regular season for San Francisco before being released by the team and placed in the practice squad.
Despite cutting Hayne from the 53-man roster, Baalke and his team's new coaching staff are eager to see what Hayne's role with the 49ers and future in the NFL will bring.
"He works hard and I would expect him to make a nice jump from year one to year two," Baalke told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"Now is that going to be enough to establish himself on the 53 within this system, I don't know. But he's going to be given every opportunity like we promised him going into this.
"We are committed to this. I'm looking forward to getting him back here, I know the coaching staff is.
"Let's see how the off-season goes, how much work he gets done and where he's at coming into year two."
