Rangers manager Caixinha bans green boots
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has banned his players from wearing green boots because they 'are the colour of Celtic'.
In a sign the Portuguese is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to catch his club's great rival, which won the Scottish Premiership by 39 points last season, Caixinha has outlawed green boots.
“From today, no one will wear boots of that colour because it is the colour of Celtic," Caixinha said in comments that lit up the British media overnight. “The slogan ‘We are the People’ will be stamped on the walls for both our players and opponents to feel the strength of Rangers.
It was a strength that deserted Rangers during Caixinha's first Old Firm derby since taking over the club in March, his side losing 5-1 to Celtic one month later.
The 46 year-old, who is in the midst of a roster rebuild, expressed confidence the team will improve on its third-place finish last season.
“The Rangers fans are full of hope, the Celtic fans are upbeat and excited and that’s normal because they have won six titles in a row," he said. “Only once have I been bothered. In the centre of the city, a drunk Celtic fan upset me, but it was nothing.
“The centre of Glasgow is beautiful like the rest of the city.”
