Gersbach sends timely reminder to Postecoglou
Australian defender Alex Gersbach produced a strong performance for Rosenborg in the Norwegian cup, just hours after being omitted from the Socceroos squad to play in the Confederations Cup.
Just hours after learning he had been cut from Socceroos coach Ange Postecolgou's Australia squad for its upcoming matches against Saudi Arabia, Brazil and the Confederations Cup, Rosenberg defender Alex Gersbach sent a timely reminder of his attacking ability, with a pinpoint cross to assist his side's third goal in the 4-2 NM Cup win over Levanger.
Gersbach was included in Postecoglou's initial squad for a packed international schedule in June, before being culled - the coach preferring Bournemouth defender Brad Smith and Bursaspor's Aziz Behich as his left back options.
Gersbach, still only 20 years-old, responded to that setback with an impressive performance for the Norwegian giant in its win over Levanger. The ex-Sydney FC star produced an overlapping run down the left touchline, before whipping in a cross which was nodded home by hat-trick hero Mathias Vilhjalmsson.
