Lando Norris claims he knew his first Formula One win of the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix was coming and backed McLaren to get more victories after the summer break.

Norris' last victory came in Sao Paulo last November, but he had enough to claim a commanding win at Hungaroring, crossing the line 15 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen.

It is the first time the Brit has won a grand prix more than once at the same circuit, having also triumphed in Hungary in 2025.

He is also the first driver since Lewis Hamilton in 2020 to win the Hungarian Grand Prix from pole position. He has also converted nine of his 17 F1 pole positions into victories.

Norris was helped by a controversial strategy that did not help Oscar Piastri, who did not finish the race, but the world champion was thrilled to be back on top of the podium.

"I don't know what happened, to be honest. I just kept losing the rear; I had like three or four big snaps. It felt horrible," he said.

"Oscar did a good job to get the cut back and get back past [on the first lap]. I think I was just a bit wide in the dirt, and game over for the first lap.

"But I was pushing like hell to try to force him into a mistake or something. My pace was probably some of the best pace I've ever had. The car was beautiful to drive, and I felt very confident, so a great race.

"And to get it back in terms of going long, which is certainly not what I was expecting, but the pace was so good I could always extend the stints, and fresh tyres then always won me the race.

"I'm just happy to be back and see the number one again."

Thanks to Norris' victory, and despite Piastri's retirement, McLaren have become the fourth constructor in F1 history to surpass the 8,000-point mark (8,010.5).

Norris is fifth in the drivers' championship, while McLaren remain third in the constructors’, and the 26-year-old is backing them to add to their tallies with more wins when the season resumes in August.

"I want to believe so," Norris said when asked if they could win more. "Considering how good it felt, I certainly want to believe that we can continue it.

"There's going to be moments where we're going to struggle more and moments that might be even better.

"We know this track is a good one for us, probably one of my best-suited tracks of the year. This is maybe as good as it can look for now, but I certainly believe we can still win races.

"I knew it was coming. The team have put so much work in to make a car that can finally win again. It's nice to be able to do it for them."
