The Biggest Storylines Heading Into The ONE Friday Fights 159 Main Event
Plans changed, but the excitement did not.
With Worapon Lukjaoporongtom ruled out due to a medical issue, the flyweight Muay Thai co-main event between Xavier Gonzalez and Chatanan Sor Jor Joyprajin will now headline ONE Friday Fights 159 on June 19 at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium. Truth be told, this fight is loaded with storylines. It’s two fighters who have very different career trajectories, and one night that could change everything for both of them.
Can Gonzalez Make It Two Wins In Two Weeks?
Two weeks ago, Xavier Gonzalez was still shaking off the rust of a two-bout skid. Now, he is riding one of the biggest waves of his ONE Championship career.
On June 5, the Spaniard ended his drought in the most emphatic way possible – reading Payaksurin JP Power's left high kick perfectly, stepping inside the launch, and detonating a counter left hook that put his opponent flat on the canvas in just 68 seconds.
That is the kind of knockout that changes how a fighter sees himself. And rather than sit on it, Gonzalez is back just two weeks later and aiming for another highlight-reel moment.
The 24-year-old Spaniard looks for his second knockout victory in a span of two weeks, and if he could achieve that, it would capture everyone’s attention.
A Star Returning From The Shadows
Chatanan Sor Jor Joyprajin arrived at ONE Friday Fights in early 2023 and announced himself immediately. To be even clearer, he registered back-to-back second-round knockout victories that made everyone take notice.
Then, in December 2023, he ran into Aslamjon Ortikov. The undefeated Uzbek phenom landed a vicious head kick that sent Chatanan to the canvas and ended his night early.
The same Ortikov will now challenge for the vacant ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title at The Inner Circle 20 next week – and that alone is proof of exactly the level of competition Chatanan has been competing at.
Chatanan has been away from ONE Friday Fights since that heartbreaking defeat, and Friday marks his return. The only man who has stopped him is now fighting for a World Championship. If the 22-year-old Thai can shake off the long layoff and get back in the win column in style, it would elevate his star to new heights.
The Stakes Could Not Be Higher
At ONE Friday Fights, no two outcomes are ever the same – and that unpredictability is exactly what makes every main event feel like a career-defining moment.
Both Gonzalez and Chatanan know that an impressive showing could do more than add another victory to the winner’s record.
A life-changing contract and a spot on ONE Championship's global roster have been handed out on nights like this before, and there is no reason Friday cannot be one of them.
Nothing is guaranteed, but for both men, one standout performance could open a door that changes everything.
