Skinner salutes Man Utd 'history makers' after securing Women's Champions League debut
Manchester United progressed to the Women's Champions League main draw for the first time, after Elisabeth Terland's treble against Brann.
Marc Skinner saluted Manchester United's "history makers" after they secured their first appearance in the Women's Champions League main draw.
The Red Devils overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Brann at Leigh Sports Village on Thursday, with Elisabeth Terland's hat-trick sealing their progress into uncharted territory.
Terland turned the tie around by scoring twice in the opening 13 minutes, before completing her treble just after the hour mark to round off a 3-1 aggregate victory.
And Skinner was delighted by the determination demonstrated by his players.
"Over both legs, we thoroughly deserved it," he told MUTV. "We were the better team, so congratulations to my players – they are history makers, and that is incredible.
"That's what dreams are: taking our fans on a proper European tour. Now, it's not just about being there, it's about giving our very best.
"This team looked like they wanted to write history. An early goal was always going to be key, and to get two in under 15 minutes set the standard. We're an incredible team at home, and it's difficult for anyone to play against us. The whole team pulled together."
Terland, whose hat-trick took her goal tally for the qualifying rounds to seven in four matches, also hailed the character of her team-mates.
"I think what stands out for me today is the performance from the team. We went out and totally dominated the game, which is exactly what we wanted to do," the Norwegian striker said.
"I love playing for this team – and when people pass me the ball like they did today, it's an easy job as a striker.
"We knew we wanted to play more UWCL games this season, and we made history today. I'm proud of the group and what we've done so far – and now, we're here to really compete."
