'We're going to go out and beat them' – Havertz confident ahead of Champions League final
Arsenal have never won the Champions League, but Kai Havertz believes they will end that run against Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
Arsenal can end their wait for Champions League glory and are "going to go out and beat" reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in the final, so says a confident Kai Havertz.
The Gunners, fresh from winning their first Premier League title in 22 years, are out to complete a historic double when they face the Parisiens at Puskas Arena on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta's side are looking to become the fourth English club to win the top-flight and European Cup/Champions League in the same season, along with Liverpool (1976-77, 1983-84), Manchester United (1998-99, 2007-08) and Manchester City (2022-23).
Arsenal could become the 25th team to win the UEFA Champions League/European Cup, but they come up against a PSG side that have been there and already done it.
In fact, Arsenal have played more matches (225) in Champions League/European Cup history than any other club without winning the trophy, while Luis Enrique's side are looking to become only the second team since 1992-93 to retain their crown, after Real Madrid.
Havertz is one of two players, along with Kepa Arrizabalaga, in Arsenal's ranks that have already won UEFA's flagship competition, with the pair lifting the trophy with Chelsea.
And the German international is optimistic of repeating the trick this time around, while he also pushed back the claim his team were the underdogs heading into the clash.
"To be honest, PSG was probably the best team in Europe last season, and they still have incredible stats this year," Havertz said.
"For us, it's only the second time the club has reached the final. But we have a lot of confidence.
"We've had to fight at the highest level for several years, and we finally won the Premier League. That gives us a boost.
"Anyway, being the underdog or not doesn't matter. We're going to go out and beat them."
Havertz has every reason to be confident, given Arsenal are the only team unbeaten in this season's Champions League, with 11 wins and three draws.
Their only period trailing in a match in the competition this season occurred during the round of 16 first leg away to Bayer Leverkusen, where they were behind for 43 minutes before claiming a 1-1 draw.
Arsenal's run to the final has been built on their solid foundations at the back. The Gunners hold the best defensive record in this season's Champions League, conceding six goals in 14 matches (0.43 per game).
The record for teams with 13+ matches in a single campaign remains 0.31 per game, held by the Gunners (2005-06) and Chelsea (2020-21). Additionally, Arsenal are the only side yet to concede a goal from open play in this campaign's knockout stages (six matches).
But that could change against PSG's star-studded attack. They have netted 44 goals so far in the competition, a total only bettered by the Barcelona side from 1999-00 (45) in a single edition of the Champions League.
