Slot rules Alisson out of Chelsea clash after injury in Liverpool defeat to Galatasaray
Alisson was injured as Liverpool were beaten by Galatasaray and will not feature in the Premier League against Chelsea, Arne Slot has said.
Arne Slot confirmed Alisson will not feature in Liverpool's Premier League contest against Chelsea after the Reds' goalkeeper was injured in Tuesday's defeat to Galatasaray.
The Brazil international was hurt in the process of making a one-on-one stop from Victor Osimhen, who had earlier scored the penalty that settled the Champions League contest in Istanbul.
Alisson was consequently replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili and the Georgia international looks set to deputise against the Blues this weekend.
Speaking to Amazon Prime, Slot said: "It's never positive if you go off like this. You can be sure he is not playing Saturday."
Liverpool have now suffered back-to-back defeats after seeing their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign ended by Crystal Palace last Saturday.
Defeat to Gala marks the first time they have failed to score in a group stage/league phase game since a 2-0 defeat to Atalanta in November 2020, ending a run of 23 consecutive matches with at least one goal.
Moreover, Liverpool have lost five of their last eight away games in all competitions (W3), as many as their previous 34 beforehand (W21 D8 L5).
They were punished for Dominik Szoboszlai's clumsy foul on Baris Yilmaz that allowed Osimhen to score from 12 yards, while Cody Gakpo saw an effort cleared off the line just moments before the penalty was awarded.
However, Slot remains convinced his side are not far away from the levels they set in cantering to the Premier League title last season.
"Again, disappointed. For me, this was a different performance on and off the ball [than against Palace]. In the first half we played quite well and had a big chance to go 1-0 up," he said.
"It is difficult to compare this situation to before. We are sometimes a bit out-smarted in situations like this and I cannot blame Dominik Szoboszlai for the situation. They make a 20% penalty a 100 percent penalty, which is very smart from them.
"We are not so far [off the level shown last season]. This is sometimes what the schedule can bring, Galatasaray is not a simple game. We now play Chelsea away, a difficult game.
"The margins are small and they were last season. For the second time in a row we are on the wrong side.
"I saw a lot of things in the first half, but the second half was much less. I don't think in the second half there was a lot of playing time, their striker was on the floor four or five times. It was difficult to get momentum in the game."
