'I'm not going to go down without a fight' – Marquinhos ready for Inter test
Marquinhos is the only player remaining from Paris Saint-Germain's squad that lost the 2020 Champions League final, and is out for revenge.
Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos said he would do everything in his power to win the Champions League final, having already lost once in the showpiece match.
Marquinhos was a member of the PSG team that lost to Bayern Munich in the 2020 final, but has a second shot at European glory against Inter on Saturday.
The Brazilian has been a crucial part of Luis Enrique's team this season, who have already lifted the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France crown.
Only Atletico Madrid (43.5%) have handed a higher share of minutes to players aged 30+ in the Champions League this season than Inter (43.3%), whose 6,151 minutes by players aged 30+ is the most by a team since Juventus in 2016-17 (6,186).
All the 1,350 minutes PSG have given to players aged 30 or over have been by just one player, Marquinhos, who is out for redemption at the Allianz Arena.
"We've been through highs, we've been through lows," Marquinhos told reporters.
"Tomorrow we've got a beautiful opportunity. We could go down in history. This would be great for the club, for the players.
"This is my second chance to win a Champions League final, and I'm not going to go down without a fight."
But it hasn't been all plain sailing for the Parisiens, who at one stage looked in danger of even making the knockout stages of the competition.
They had lost three and drawn one of their opening five games, but finished 15th in the league phase after wins over Red Bull Salzburg, Manchester City and Stuttgart.
Since then, they have gone from strength to strength, and they are looking to end their season with the prize they have craved for so long.
Indeed, PSG have currently played the fourth-most games (167) without ever winning the European Cup/UEFA Champions League since it began in 1955, behind Arsenal (211), Dynamo Kyiv (185) and Atletico (176).
A win on Saturday would see them have the most games before winning their first trophy in the competition, with Man City the current most on 116 before they won their 117th game in the final against Inter in 2023.
"We're going to pull out the performance of a lifetime tomorrow on the pitch because it will be very difficult, and actually we've had to fight all season now to get to the final," Marquinhos added.
"We've done everything we can to get to the final of the Champions League. This is the best moment of our season. It's that cherry on the top, and it's up to us now.
"We need to take the silverware back to Paris so that we can share this with our fans who have supported us over the season. Time is of the essence now, we're going for the silverware tomorrow, and we're going to take it home."
