Barcelona 5-1 Feyenoord: Raphinha and Yamal shine in five-star victory

Raphinha and Lamine Yamal pulled the strings for Barcelona as they started their Champions League campaign with a rampant 5-1 win over Feyenoord.

The Brazilian scored twice, while the 19-year-old got a goal and two assists, with Karim Adeyemi and Gabriel Jesus scoring their first European goals for Barca at Camp Nou.

It took just under three minutes for Barcelona to get on the scoresheet, with Raphinha latching onto Yamal's flick before cutting onto his left foot – leaving two Feyenoord defenders on the floor – and coolly bending an effort past Tjark Ernst into the bottom-left corner.

Barcelona then doubled their lead in the 22nd minute. Adeyemi was given too much space as he drove down the left, and he curled a spectacular finish past the helpless Ernst.

Joan Garcia reacted quickly to smother Anis Hadj Moussa's chance in Feyenoord's first meaningful foray forward, and just moments later, Joao Cancelo struck the corner of the goal frame following a pacy counter-attack.

Feyenoord looked more of a threat after the break, though Nacho Ferri had a goal ruled out 56 minutes in after he set off too early before then taking the ball out of Garcia's grip to slot it into the net.

Raphinha got his second just under two minutes later, timing his run perfectly between Feyenoord's defenders to gather Pedri's throughball and slot past Ernst.

Feyenoord were then denied a second time just before the hour. Garcia smothered Ouassama Targhalline's effort, but Barca failed to clear their lines, allowing Ferri to pounce. However, a tight offside call in the build-up went against them.

Yamal got his goal in the 77th minute, curling a free-kick into the right side of the net from inside the D, but the strike went straight through Feyenoord's wall, leaving Ernst wrong-footed.

Sem Steijn pulled one back five minutes later, peeling away at the back post to turn in Goncalo Borges' cross, but Barcelona restored their four-goal cushion in the 85th minute with Jesus rising high to flick Yamal's cross into the net.

It is the 21st time that Barcelona have opened a European Cup/Champions League campaign at home, and they certainly turned on the style in the pouring rain.

The Spanish giants have now scored 36 goals against Dutch opponents in European competition, with this their 11th such match.

They were on top from the get-go, having 24 shots and getting nine on target, but they massively overperformed their 1.63 expected goals (xG) – they could have had a sixth late on as well, but Jesus clipped the crossbar in stoppage time.

Raphinha continued his fine form to start 2026-27, netting his seventh and eighth goals as Barcelona netted five times for the fourth time already this campaign, and the third game running.

In fact, since the start of the 2024-25 campaign, only Harry Kane (29) has been directly involved in more Champions League goals than Raphinha (28 – 18 goals, 10 assists).

While he could not score a hat-trick, there was one for Ermedin Demirovic in Stuttgart's 3-1 win over Viking. He scored the fifth-fastest treble in Champions League history (32nd minute).
