Sevilla 0-1 Real Madrid: Vinicius plunges hosts into further relegation trouble
Real Madrid piled more misery on relegation-threatened Sevilla, who saw their fight for LaLiga survival go down to the final day.
Vinicius Junior scored the only goal as Real Madrid plunged Sevilla into further relegation trouble thanks to a 1-0 win at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.
Following results elsewhere in the division, Sevilla find themselves just three points above the bottom three, with as many as seven teams facing relegation on the final day.
Sevilla did start brightly and forced Thibaut Courtois into an early save through Oso, but Alvaro Abeloa's side got themselves in front against the run of play in the 15th minute.
Brahim Diaz's cross into the box was taken down by Kylian Mbappe, who turned the ball back for Vinicius to slot into the bottom-right corner, though the Sevilla players felt Jose Angel Carmona had been fouled in the build-up by the Madrid number 10.
Mbappe then sent a curling attempt narrowly wide as Los Blancos ended the half in the ascendency, with Aurelien Tchouameni seeing his effort blocked early in the second half.
Madrid continued to push for a nerve-settling second but Mbappe lashed over the crossbar in the 68th minute before Franco Mastantuono's shot cannoned against the post.
Jude Bellingham then slipped in Mbappe, who rounded Odysseas Vlachodimos to score, only for the offside flag to deny the Frenchman, and despite Sevilla's late effort, which saw Kike Salas sting the palms of Courtois, Madrid held on for all thee points.
Data Debrief: Vinicius seals another Seville success
Madrid have now picked up points in each of their last seven LaLiga visits to Sevilla (W6 D1), equalling their longest unbeaten away run against them in the competition, which they managed between 1994 and 2003 (also W6 D1).
And their success was built on Vinicius' early strike. Only Bayern Munich's Harry Kane (28) has scored more goals in all competitions in 2026 than the Brazilian's 17 among players from the top five European Leagues. He also finished with team-high totals for chances created (two) and touches in the opposition box (nine).
Sevilla, meanwhile, have now failed to win any of their last 15 LaLiga matches against Madrid (D2 L13) since a 3-0 victory in September 2018, equalling their longest winless streak against Los Blancos in the competition (15 games, D2 L13 between 1993 and 2003).
But in a game lacking much quality in the final third, Madrid just about deserved their win. They finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.03 from their 12 shots, though only one of those were on target, compared to Sevilla's tally of 0.64 from their 14 attempts.
