LaLiga: Girona relegated on the final day, Getafe clinch European spot
Getafe will be playing European football next season, while Girona and Mallorca have been relegated from LaLiga, along with Real Oviedo.
Girona have been relegated from LaLiga after being held to a 1-1 draw by Elche.
A win on the final day would have been enough to see Girona stay up in the Spanish top-flight after Osasuna and Levante both lost, but they were unable to win all three points at home.
Girona skipper Arnau Martinez cancelled out Alvaro Rodriguez's strike for Elche, who avoided the drop with the crucial draw.
Osasuna, who lost 1-0 to Getafe, and Levante, who lost 2-1 to Real Betis, both avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth after finishing on the same points as Mallorca (42), who defeated already relegated Real Oviedo 3-0.
Osasuna stayed above the drop zone on goal difference, having drawn 2-2 in both meetings with Mallorca this season, while Levante's superior head-to-head record saw them retain their LaLiga status.
Just two points separated 19th-place Girona and 13th-place Sevilla, with the latter losing 1-0 to Celta Vigo on the final day.
That result saw Celta secure their place in the Europa League, while Getafe have qualified for the Conference League play-offs with their win over Osasuna.
Remarkably, despite finishing seventh, Getafe ended their league campaign with a negative goal difference (-6), having scored just 32 goals in their 38 games.
Data Debrief: Heartbreak for Girona and Mallorca
Girona can only blame themselves for relegation, having failed to win any of their last seven LaLiga games (D3 L4) in their fight for survival.
Mallorca's win on the final day was their first in four (D1 L2), while their total of 42 points is the most of any relegated side in LaLiga since Deportivo La Coruna in 2010-11 (43).
There was some joy for Mallorca, as Vedat Muriqi's strike on the final day saw him finish second in the race for the Golden Boot with 23 goals, just two behind Kylian Mbappe (25).
