Ancelotti praises Guler's progression as Madrid keep title hopes alive
Arda Guler played a starring role in Real Madrid's 3-2 win over Celta Vigo, and Carlo Ancelotti praised his development over the season.
Carlo Ancelotti praised Arda Guler's development after the youngster played a key role in Real Madrid's 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo.
Guler scored a stunning strike to give Madrid an early lead, with Kylian Mbappe adding a brace either side of half-time to put the hosts firmly in control.
They were forced to hold off a late fightback from the visitors, who reduced the deficit to a single goal through Javi Rodriguez and Willot Swedberg.
However, Ancelotti's men held on for all three points to keep their LaLiga hopes alive.
"It is clear that the Guler of September is not the one of today," said the Italian in his post-match press conference.
"His physical profile has changed, his quality is still there, it's normal and natural. He is handling it better. He has more confidence. If he makes a mistake, it’s not the end of the world.
"Two months ago, I gave him stick, and I think I have to congratulate him because they have done a good job with him."
The victory keeps Madrid within four points of LaLiga leaders Barcelona with four matches to play.
The top two will face off next weekend and Ancelotti, who picked up his 100th win in LaLiga as Madrid boss, acknowledges the result will be crucial towards the outcome of the title.
"We will have a great opportunity," he said. "We have to prepare well. It's an almost decisive match.
"If we win, we have a point disadvantage, but we will have more chances if we are able to win.
"The match has to be serious, very important, and we are going to try and try. Despite everything, we can fight in this match. It’s a beautiful thing."
