'You only need one goal' – Trossard praises Arsenal defence in Fulham win
Arsenal kept another clean sheet this season after they battled their way to a 1-0 win against Fulham in the Premier League.
Leandro Trossard believes Arsenal "only need one goal" to win some Premier League games due to the strength of their defence.
The Gunners retained their place at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Trossard scored the only goal, marking his seventh goal involvement across his last 12 games for Arsenal in all competitions (three goals, four assists), with this his first strike in nine starts since April last season against Crystal Palace.
But this was the first time since November 2003 that Arsenal did not face a shot on target in successive Premier League games, with the second game on that occasion also against Fulham.
Indeed, Arsenal have now kept five clean sheets in their eight top-flight matches in 2024-25, and Trossard was thrilled to see his side leave Fulham with all three points after another strong display at the back.
"[I'm] Very proud. It was a really tough game for us," Trossard told Sky Sports.
"First half, the quality wasn't there, but we kept fighting and believing. We only need one chance and luckily, it went. After that, we controlled the game.
"We try to win every game. It's the hardest league in the world, but we need to keep pushing. If you defend well, then you only need one goal so we need to keep going like that."
Trossard's goal came from a corner, with Gabriel Magalhaes flicking Bukayo Saka's inviting set-piece towards the Belgian at the back post.
Arsenal have now scored more goals from corners (seven) than any other side in the Premier League this season, with this their 63rd since the start of 2021-22. No other side has more than 47.
Meanwhile, Gabriel has more goal involvements than any other central defender since his debut in September 2020 (20 – 18 goals, two assists), 17 of which have come from corners (16 goals, one assist).
When asked about their set-piece strengths, Trossard said: "We are just trying because we know the opponent tries to change their shape for us.
"The ball was headed to the back post and I got the tap-in.
"We have so much quality in the team and if they try to double up on players, then I need to take advantage of that. I try every game to be important for the team."
Fulham, meanwhile, have now lost three successive Premier League games for the first time since Boxing Day 2023, while it was their first home defeat of 2025-26 (W2 D1).
And boss Marco Silva received another blow to his defence, with Joachim Andersen forced off in the first half with an injury, causing concern for the Cottagers boss.
"We miss the backline completely. That is our reality right now," said Silva.
"Even Tom Cairney is feeling some problems in his back. It is coming one after the other.
"The international break didn't help. We don't have enough depth to deal with these moments. It is a difficult moment for us."
