Salah reveals Mane rift at Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has confirmed he did not see eye-to-eye with Sadio Mane, but the pair never let that impact their performances on the pitch.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has revealed he had a difficult off-field relationship with former team-mate Sadio Mane.
Salah and Mane were key figures in Jurgen Klopp's hugely successful Liverpool side.
Mane joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2016, and went on to score 120 goals and provide 37 assists in 269 games across all competitions.
Salah, who signed for Liverpool a year after Mane's arrival, has contributed to 354 goals in all competitions for the Reds (244 goals, 110 assists). He is the club's third-highest goalscorer of all time.
Yet in spite of pairing up to lead Liverpool to Premier League and Champions League titles during their time together at Anfield, Salah and Mane never saw eye-to-eye, so says the Egyptian.
"Yes, there was tension with Sadio," Salah told France Football.
"Mind you, we were professional until the end; I don't think it affected the team.
"It's human to want more, I understand that, he's a competitor. Off the pitch, we weren't very close, but we always respected each other.
"People can think what they want; it's their right. But I invite everyone to note that the person who provided Mane with the most assists is me."
Salah assisted Mane 17 times in all competitions, which is actually the joint-most during the latter's time at Liverpool, alongside Roberto Firmino.
Mane, on the other hand, set up Salah on 12 occasions.
While Salah is enjoying a brilliant season at Liverpool, contributing to 46 Premier League goals - just one shy of the single-season record in the competition – Mane is playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
