Nottingham Forest 2-2 Leicester City: Hosts seal European spot but miss chance to reclaim fifth
Nottingham Forest secured European football next season, but could not move back into the top five after drawing with Leicester City.
Nottingham Forest missed the chance to reclaim fifth place in the Premier League after Facundo Buonanotte's equaliser snatched a 2-2 draw for relegated Leicester City at the City Ground.
The spoils were shared in the East Midlands derby as Forest secured European football next season, but were unable to climb back into the Champions League places.
Conor Coady headed Leicester in front in the 16th minute with his first Premier League goal in over two-and-a-half years, but Morgan Gibbs-White nodded the hosts level from Anthony Elanga's free-kick nine minutes later.
Chris Wood's 20th league goal of the season looked like it would seal all three points when he powered home a header from Gibbs-White's 56th-minute cross.
However, Buonanotte's superb individual effort in the 81st minute rescued a point for Ruud van Nistelrooy's side, who were denied a late winner when Matz Sels saved from youngster Jeremy Monga.
Nuno Espirito Santo's men remain seventh after they were unable to leapfrog Aston Villa and Chelsea, who were beaten by Newcastle United earlier on Sunday. Leicester stay 19th, but moved level on points with Ipswich Town.
Data Debrief: 20-goal Wood matches Collymore
Forest have failed to win a Premier League game in which they were leading for the first time since their 4-3 defeat by Newcastle United in February.
The hosts fell behind as Coady headed in his first goal in the division since netting for Everton against Southampton in October 2022, two years and 222 days ago.
However, Forest were back on level terms when Gibbs-White headed in a cross from Elanga, who claimed his 10th assist of the season - a tally only bettered by Bryan Roy for Forest in a single Premier League campaign (11 in 1994-95).
Wood completed the turnaround as he became the second Forest player to score 20 times in a Premier League season, after Stan Collymore 30 years ago, while it was his 100th goal involvement in the division (89 goals, 11 assists).
However, it proved academic as Buonanotte's equaliser means Nuno's side have now won just one of their last six games.
