Leicester City 2-0 Ipswich Town: Vardy signs off with landmark goal
Jamie Vardy made his 500th and final appearance for Leicester City on Sunday, signing off with a win and a goal at the King Power Stadium.
Jamie Vardy scored his 200th Leicester City goal to help secure a 2-0 Premier League win over Ipswich Town in his final match for the club.
Sunday marked 13 years to the day since Vardy signed for Leicester, and he was celebrated prior to kick-off, though Ipswich threatened an early upset as Leif Davis struck the post just seven minutes in.
However, Vardy brought up his landmark goal 28 minutes into his 500th appearance for the club, finishing off James Justin's brilliant marauding run to the delight of the King Power Stadium.
Ipswich pushed for an equaliser, with George Hirst forcing Jakub Stolarczyk into a smothering save just past the hour.
But Kasey McAteer made sure of the points in the 69th minute with his first Premier League goal by bending his shot into the bottom corner, minutes after hitting the post.
Davis thought he had pulled a late goal back, but his first-time volley from Omari Hutchinson's cross was chalked off as he had just strayed past the last defender, with VAR confirming the onfield decision.
Leicester leapfrog Ipswich into 18th, with this victory moving them onto 25 points. The Tractor Boys, now 19th, stay on 22.
Data Debrief: One last Vardy party
Vardy was given a hero's send-off by the club, with his 80th-minute substitution seeing him go off to a guard of honour from his team-mates and a standing ovation from the stands.
While it was his 200th goal in all competitions, it was his 145th in the Premier League.
Amongst the 34 players to have scored 100+ Premier League goals, only Dwight Yorke (98.4%) has scored a greater proportion of his goals from inside the penalty area than Vardy (97.9% - 142/145).
Leicester are threatening a strong finish, having won more points from their four Premier League games since their relegation was confirmed (seven - W2 D2 L1) than across their 19 league matches prior (five - W1 D2 L16).
