Frank hails 'incredible' Brentford after securing top-10 finish
Brentford missed out on potential European qualification after drawing at Wolves, but still secured another top-half Premier League finish.
Thomas Frank hailed his "incredible" Brentford side, despite seeing them miss out on potential European qualification following their 1-1 draw with Wolves.
The Bees headed into the final day of the Premier League season with their hopes of securing continental football, albeit requiring favours from elsewhere.
Brentford needed to win at Molineux to stand any chance of securing eighth place by leapfrogging Brighton, who they hoped would lose at Tottenham.
Frank's side were also looking for Chelsea to slip to seventh place by losing at Nottingham Forest, before winning the Conference League on Wednesday.
As it transpired, none of those outcomes materialised.
Brighton were 4-1 winners at Tottenham and Chelsea edged out Forest 1-0, while Marshall Munetsi cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo's first-half effort at Molineux.
Brentford subsequently had to settle for 10th place, though it was their second top-half finish in four Premier League seasons.
"We were closer to edging [the match]," Frank told BBC Match of the Day. "It was a bit of a game of two halves. In the first half, we were better. In the second half, I thought Wolves had a few dangerous moments.
"It was a little bit of a disappointing goal to concede, but that happens. We probably should have made it 2-0 in the first half, but we didn't.
"To produce two top-half finishes in four seasons is incredible. There are a lot of clubs that I admire that haven't done that in many years. We've done a lot of things well."
Meanwhile, Wolves managed to halt a three-game losing streak as they finished 16th, having been locked in a relegation battle when Vitor Pereira took charge in December.
Wolves have now won just one of their 11 final day Premier League fixtures, a rate of 9% - among sides to have played in at least three seasons, only three others have a rate below 10% (West Brom, Sunderland and Hull City).
And the head coach hopes his side can stay well clear of danger in his first full campaign at Molineux.
"[I am] very proud of my players, the club and our supporters," Pereira said. "We wanted to finish with a win, but it was not possible in a good game with chances for both sides.
"We lost two positions [in the table]. I'm not happy with this, but I'm very happy with what we've achieved this season since we arrived.
"We want to do better [next season]. We need to keep our base and to start our work at the beginning of the season, competing from the beginning. In my opinion, we can't play to avoid relegation. We have to look towards the middle of the table."
