Crystal Palace 4-2 Wolves: Nketiah brace inspires win at jubilant Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace's minds could have been elsewhere following their FA Cup victory, but they showed their class to beat Wolves 4-2.
Eddie Nketiah scored a brace as Crystal Palace celebrated Saturday's FA Cup triumph over Manchester City with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
On a high from seeing Palace win their first major trophy at Wembley Stadium, the jubilant home fans at Selhurst Park were initially quietened when Emmanuel Agbadou's header crossed the line midway through the first half, despite Nketiah's best efforts to block it.
That got the hosts going, though, with Nketiah inspiring the comeback. Last summer's £30million signing from Arsenal powered home an equaliser before tapping in Ismaila Sarr's clever cross to make it 2-1 before the break.
That momentum continued after half-time with Ben Chilwell's deflected free-kick nestling in the corner to make it 3-1, though Jorgen Strand Larsen's 62nd-minute header kept Wolves' hopes alive.
But Palace's Wembley hero Eberechi Eze was introduced from the bench to make it 4-2 and ensure the Eagles pushed beyond the 50-point mark for the first time in their Premier League history.
They stay 12th in the table, with Wolves in 14th.
Data Debrief: Palace make more history
Having led Palace to a historic FA Cup win on Saturday, Oliver Glasner has now overseen yet more history just three days later.
Victory for the Eagles moves them to 52 points, their highest-ever tally in the Premier League and their most in the top flight overall since the 1991-92 season.
That tally is also the most any Premier League team has ever managed after failing to win any of their first eight matches of a season.
Wolves have also turned their campaign around following a miserable start, but after enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run (W6 D1), Wolves have lost each of their last three Premier League games, conceding seven goals in that time, as many as in their prior nine matches.
There was one positive for them as Strand Larsen scored his 14th Premier League goal of the season. Half of those strikes have come since the beginning of March, with the Norwegian scoring more goals in the competition than any other player in that time.
