Moises Caicedo is "up there with Rodri" as the best defensive midfielder in the world, according to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

The Blues got back to winning ways in the Premier League, after edging out Tottenham 1-0 in the London derby.

Caicedo played a key role in the winning goal on 34 minutes, winning the ball just outside the hosts' penalty area, before putting it on a plate for Joao Pedro to finish.

That was one of 15 passes in the final third made by the Ecuadorian, whose tally was only bettered by Enzo Fernandez (23), while only Reece James (eight) won possession on more occasions (seven).

Caicedo also recorded the most interceptions over the 90 minutes (four), with Maresca lauding his performance.

"He's top. He's up there with Rodri as one of the best defensive midfielders, probably in the world," the Italian said. 

"Spurs look very, very good. You need this kind of performance to win. I think you have to be brave on the ball and off the ball. Off the ball, we were good, but on the ball, we created many chances. 

"In England, 1-0 is not a finished game. We could have scored one or two more, and it would have been a lot more relaxed for us. But a win against Tottenham, clean sheet, and we're happy."

Maresca also praised the display of Wesley Fofana, who was back in the starting line-up for the first time since Chelsea's Champions League win over Ajax 10 days earlier.

"Wes is a top defender for us," he said. "Coming into this game, we scored the most goals in the Premier League.

"The problem was the goals we conceded; we conceded too many. So, we need to be solid. I think we are on the right path."
