Arsenal wait on Gyokeres injury as Arteta hails 'exceptional' first half against Burnley
Viktor Gyokeres impressed as Arsenal beat Burnley at Turf Moor but had to be replaced before the second half began on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta said it is too soon to know the extent of Viktor Gyokeres injury sustained at the end of an "exceptional" first half in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.
Gyokeres nodded in the Gunners' opener from a well-worked corner involving Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes on Saturday.
The Sweden striker played a wonderful pass in the build up to Leandro Trossard teeing up Rice to head home the visitors second after 35 minutes, and also played in Bukayo Saka for a couple of one-on-one opportunities.
However, Gyokeres – who now has four Premier League goals for the season – did not return for the second half and Arsenal manager Arteta explained why.
"In the first half, it was one of the best games he's played with us," Arteta told BBC Match of the Day.
"He felt something muscular so we have to wait to learn the extent of that."
Arsenal have now scored eight goals from corners this season, the most a team has ever managed in their opening 10 games of a Premier League campaign.
There have been five instances of a team preventing an opponent from registering a shot on target this season, with Arsenal now responsible for three of those.
Across all competitions, they have won nine consecutive games, their longest winning run since October 2018 (11 wins in a row under Unai Emery).
Arteta was full of praise for his side's performance, especially in a first half in which they completely controlled proceedings.
"The first half was exceptional, we scored two goals and gave nothing away," he added.
"That was the platform. We had to make a few changes and didn't have that much control in the second half.
"Our defending was exceptional again, we didn't give anything. There is a reason they have lost one game in 18 months here, against Liverpool in the last second of the game."
Rice was typically influential for Arsenal, with Arteta saying of the England midfielder: "He stepped up. He won I don't know how many balls and tackles. It's the evolution of a player."
