St Louis City v Real Salt Lake: ‘We are on the right track’, says Burki
St Louis City will look to cause an upset on decision day as they host playoff hopefuls Real Salt Lake at Energizer Park.
Roman Burki believes St Louis City are “on the right track” as they look to continue their fine run of form on decision day against Real Salt Lake.
Although they are not in contention for the playoffs, St Louis have won three of their last four games in MLS, as many as they had in their previous 14 matches in the competition.
Their last match was particularly impressive, cruising to a 3-1 away win against Austin FC, who are sixth in the Western Conference.
Despite their poor start to the season, which eventually ruled them out of the postseason, Burki is optimistic about the future of the team.
“I have definitely seen a lot of improvement,” said Burki.
“I think what Critch [head coach David Cricthley] has mentioned before is that it was not easy when he stepped in, but he wanted to change some things, the training [sessions], how we played on the weekends, and I think we changed a lot.
“We have won two away games in a row and it is a sign that we need time, but we are on the right track. I’m very positive about the whole improvement that we have made.
“We should now look forward. What happened in the past is in the past, we can’t change it, and it is the way it is.
“So I’m looking positively into the future and the off-season the time to prepare for next and be ready to do it all over again.”
RSL won’t be an easy final regular-season fixture for St Louis as the visitors will be looking to secure their spot in the playoffs.
A win for RSL will guarantee their place in the postseason, but they could miss out entirely if they fail to win at Energizer Park.
