Seattle Sounders v Minnesota United: Ferreira hopes San Diego goal is the first of many
The Seattle Sounders host Minnesota United this weekend on the back of a 1-0 victory over San Diego in midweek, with Jesus Ferreira scoring.
Seattle Sounders forward Jesus Ferreira was delighted to break his scoring duck last time out, ahead of their home game against Minnesota United this weekend.
The Sounders beat San Diego FC 1-0 in midweek with Ferreira netting the only goal, which was his first of the season after 15 MLS appearances.
“It was a lot of emotion, a lot of happiness, something left my body,” Ferreira said of his roaring celebration, as quoted by The Seattle Times.
“What I’m very happy about is the support that I’ve gotten from the team and from the coaches even when I was going through the spell of no goals.”
The decisive moment came in the 58th minute against San Diego, with Ferreira having missed team-mate Albert Rusnak's call for a pass.
“I was in the zone,” said Ferreira, who last scored an MLS goal in September 2024. “Once I took my touch, I kind of knew I wanted to shoot.
"The last game (a 1-0 win over FC Dallas) showed me, gave me a little boost of confidence that I can play that number nine position.
"That I can make runs in the box. I can have opportunities. It’s just a matter of me putting them away. Today, I was able to put one away.
“We knew from the beginning of the game that we had to show a different team.
"We’ve come a long way. We’ve built chemistry. We collectively believe in each other. So we knew it was going to be a difficult game. It was just a matter of moments.”
Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer, meanwhile, hopes the goal will be the first of many, saying: “I hope this goal starts him off in a good way.
“We needed him to score, he needed to score to get some of the fans off his back. He’s done a lot of good things and [Wednesday] scoring the winning goal, I told him afterward, it’s the first of many more goals for the Sounders.”

The Sounders have got the better of Minnesota of late, having gone unbeaten against them in the last seven MLS meetings.
