Orlando City SC v Sporting Kansas City: 'I'm the perfect fit for Pareja', says Spicer
Orlando City SC will be looking to build on their winning momentum when they welcome Sporting Kansas City to Inter&Co Stadium this weekend.
Orlando City SC forward Tyrese Spicer believes he is "the perfect fit" for head coach Oscar Pareja after completing his switch to the Lions earlier this month.
Spicer, who has been capped six times by Trinidad and Tobago, arrived at the club from Toronto FC and made his debut off the bench in Orlando's 4-1 win over Inter Miami.
The 24-year-old played 21 MLS games for Toronto this season but started just seven of those matches, scoring twice before putting pen to paper on a deal with Orlando.
And Spicer is confident he can provide Pareja with the right qualities as Orlando look to extend their three-match winning league streak when they take on Sporting Kansas City.
"I think I'm a perfect fit for Oscar, and he really likes my dynamicness, my instinctiveness, and I'm really, really direct," Spicer said.
"Just doing all these intense practices, close control, all the different kinds of stuff I think has really helped my game.
"The sky's the limit for me, but I just got to focus in and stay humble and follow the directions of the coaches. I think the stadium, the fans, it’s an unbelievable atmosphere.
"When I walked in the stadium, and I started hearing the chanting and seeing the lion mascot and all the lads were just like, 'Let's go, let's get this win', that pumped a flame in me.
"I feel like Orlando is a really, really good team. I feel like this team is a team that contends for titles, so it's a no-brainer to just go there and achieve some stuff."
Orlando's next opponents, Kansas City, are 13th in the Western Conference after failing to win any of their last four league games.
Despite showing dominance in large parts of their last game against league leaders San Diego FC, they were beaten 2-0, denting their hopes of reaching the playoffs.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Orlando City – Martin Ojeda
Martin Ojeda has contributed to a goal in 11 straight matches, the joint-third-longest streak in MLS history.
His 12 assists this season equals the club record, while his 14 goals are tied for the second most in a single season in club history (Cyle Larin – 17 in 2015).
Sporting Kansas City – Dejan Joveljic
Sporting KC have been spearheaded in attack by Dejan Joveljic, who has scored on 13 occasions.
Joveljic has failed to score in his last three games, though, but found the back of the net in seven of his previous eight matches.
MATCH PREDICTION – ORLANDO CITY WIN
The eight meetings between Orlando and Kansas City have been split, with each team winning three times (2 draws). Orlando are unbeaten in their three home matches against Sporting KC (W2 D1).
Orlando have won five of their last six matches in all competitions (D1), including the last three in a row. They are looking for their first four-match winning streak of 2025 after recording a run of at least four straight wins in each of the last three years.
Kansas City have lost only four of their nine away matches under Kerry Zavagnin (W3 D2), including losing just two of the last six (W2 D2). They had lost 16 of their final 18 away matches in all competitions (W1 D1) prior to Zavagnin taking over as interim manager in April.
