Nashville SC v New York Red Bulls: Schwartz hails Forsberg and Choupo-Moting
The New York Red Bulls hammered LA Galaxy 7-0 last weekend, with experienced duo Emil Forsberg and Eric Choupo-Moting scoring twice each.
Sandro Schwarz lauded the performances of Emil Forsberg and Eric Choupo-Moting after the New York Red Bulls' huge win over the LA Galaxy.
The Red Bulls hammered the Galaxy 7-0 in a rematch of last season's MLS Cup final on Saturday.
Experienced duo Forsberg and Choupo-Moting were on fine form, scoring twice each.
Forsberg, meanwhile, also provided two assists.
Two former Bundesliga stars, Choupo-Moting and Forsberg are at the top of the Red Bulls' scoring charts in MLS this season, with six and five goals respectively.
Forsberg has also provided three MLS assists.
"You see that the quality of Forsberg and Choupo-Moting was great," Schwarz said after the win over the Galaxy. "How they work, and then especially the quality in the final third.
"They're great guys off the pitch. They're helping the young guys, especially. And of course, we see the quality on the pitch with the clear direction, the deep runs.
"Emil’s first goal was top, with a great assist by Omar Valencia. Choupo made some great runs. This is what we need."
Nashville SC are next up for the Red Bulls.
Two points separate the teams in the Eastern Conference, with Nashville sitting fifth and the Red Bulls seventh.
"We are looking at the big picture, but we are satisfied and happy with the result and the quality we have seen," added Schwarz.
"It’s great, but now we have to continue [against Nashville]."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Nashville SC - Hany Mukhtar
Mukhtar had an off-season last year, but he has been in good form this term, scoring five MLS goals, including netting in Nashville's 2-1 win over Charlotte FC last time out.
With a goal and two assists, Mukhtar has been directly involved in a goal three straight regular-season appearances.
Mukhtar has seven streaks of four or more straight league games with a goal contribution in his Nashville SC career but last did so in May-June 2023.
New York Red Bulls - Emil Forsberg
As well as contributing to eight MLS goals, scoring five and assisting three, Forsberg has been the Red Bulls' most creative player this term.
The Swede has played 25 key passes, 11 more than next-best team-mate Choupo-Moting.
MATCH PREDICTION: DRAW
The Red Bulls tied the largest margin of victory in a regular-season match in MLS history with a 7-0 win over LA Galaxy on Saturday. New York are the first team in MLS history to record multiple wins by seven goals (also vs. NYCFC in May 2016).
However, the Red Bulls have won just two of their last 17 regular-season matches on the road (D7 L8).
Nashville have won eight of their last 14 matches in all competitions (D2 L4) dating back to the end of last season. They had recorded just two wins in their previous 16 games.
The Red Bulls have never lost to Nashville SC (W3 D4). Indeed, they have only conceded one goal over their seven meetings with Nashville, including keeping clean sheets in five in a row.
