Los Angeles FC v FC Dallas: Quill maintains belief in tactical approach
Out-of-form FC Dallas travel to face Los Angeles FC at BMO Stadium on Saturday, with the hosts preparing to enter a busy period.
FC Dallas coach Eric Quill does not believe his team's recent struggles are down to tactical shortcomings, as they bid to end a three-match losing streak against Los Angeles FC.
Dallas were beaten 2-1 by Minnesota United last week, with that loss following reverses against the San Jose Earthquakes (2-4) and San Diego FC (2-3).
They are 13th of 15 teams in the Western Conference standings, five points adrift of the playoff picture and eight behind upcoming opponents LAFC.
"We're going to look and figure out the best gameplan – if we need to make personnel changes, if we need to make formation changes," Quill said as he looked forward to Saturday's trip to BMO Stadium.
"We're going to look hard at it, look hard at the opponent. But I really don't think it's formation, I don't think it's tactics."
LAFC, meanwhile, beat the Colorado Rapids 3-0 on Wednesday with goals from Denis Bouanga, Nathan Ordaz and Javairo Dilrosun.
That victory saw them halt a four-game winless run, having failed to record a victory at the Club World Cup before losing 1-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps on their return to MLS action.
LAFC, who also had a trip to Austin FC postponed due to inclement weather, will play eight matches in the next month, but Steve Cherundolo will not use that congestion as an excuse.
"This schedule is what it is. We cannot change that," he said.
"It's important not to waste any moments; moments meaning games you can win, moments also meaning chances in each game. It's important to play as effectively as possible. That is our objective."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Los Angeles FC – Denis Bouanga
Bouanga's converted penalty against the Rapids on Wednesday was the 50th regular-season goal of his MLS career.
That is the most regular-season goals by any MLS player since his debut in August 2022, with the next most in that time being Christian Benteke, with 44.
FC Dallas – Petar Musa
Musa has been involved in a goal in four straight regular-season matches.
He also recorded a five-match run with a goal contribution between July and August 2024, and is the only Dallas player to register a streak of four or more games with a goal contribution since the start of 2023.
MATCH PREDICTION – LOS ANGELES FC WIN
Dallas have collected 16 points from their first 10 road matches of the regular season (four wins, four draws, two defeats).
That tally equals the third-most the team has totalled through their first 10 away games of any season (after 18 in 2005 and 17 in 2018).
They may struggle to take any points from this one, though. LAFC are unbeaten in six all-time meetings with Dallas on home soil (five wins, one draw), winning each of the last five.
They are the only team Dallas have faced five or more times on the road without ever beating in MLS action.
LAFC are also coming off a 3-0 victory over Colorado, their 13th regular-season game with multiple goals this year. The only team with more in MLS is San Diego FC (14).
OPTA WIN PROBABILITY
