Roberto De Zerbi took a subtle dig at rivals Nice after his Marseille side thrashed them 5-1 to move to the top of Ligue 1.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his 400th career goal and a brace from Mason Greenwood helped Marseille record their fourth away win from their last five games (D1), two more than they managed in their previous 10 (W2 D1 L7).

Greenwood scored his 30th and 31st Ligue 1 goals in his 46th appearance for Marseille. Since 1947-48, only two players have reached the 30-goal mark in fewer Ligue 1 games for the club: Gunnar Andersson (34) and Josip Skoblar (38).

Marseille are now one point ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the standings, though the reigning champions face Le Havre on Saturday.

De Zerbi, though, hinted Marseille do not view the fixture against Nice in the same way as their counterparts.

"We played well against a strong team. For them, it's a derby," De Zerbi told Ligue 1+.

"It was a tense match. We needed to play better in the second half. But everything's fine. We won and scored five goals.

"We're provisionally top of the table. It feels good!"

Along with Aubameyang and Greenwood, Timothy Weah and Igor Paixao also got on the scoresheet for Marseille.

Weah scored his first Ligue 1 goal since his brace with Lille against Rennes in May 2022, ending a 38-match goal drought in Ligue 1.

The United States international dedicated the win to the Marseille fans, who made their presence known in the stadium with their noise and flares.

"We went to greet the away section. Even from afar, the fans are with us. We play for them, this victory is for them," said Weah.

"It feels great. We put in a good team performance. That's the strength of this group; we're a family."
