Bolivia 0-4 Scotland: First-half rout concludes Clarke's World Cup preparations
Scotland produced a scintillating attacking display as they thrashed Bolivia in their final match before their World Cup campaign begins.
Scotland finished their World Cup preparations with a flurry after a rip-roaring first-half display saw them dismantle Bolivia 4-0 on Saturday.
Lawrence Shankland, Scott McTominay and a Che Adams brace sealed the win in the opening 45 minutes, with their attention now turning to their opening match against Haiti.
Scotland needed just five minutes to take the lead at Sports Illustrated Stadium when Andy Robertson's clipped cross to the back post was met by Shankland's towering header.
Steve Clarke's side ramped up the pressure in search of a second, and it came in the 23rd minute through McTominay, who marked his 70th appearance for Scotland with a goal when his shot squirmed under the grasp of Guillermo Viscarra and nestled into the bottom-left corner.
Adams then got himself on the scoresheet seven minutes later when he tucked Ben Gannon-Doak's teasing delivery across the face of goal into the net from close range.
The Torino striker doubled his tally on the stroke of half-time as Scotland netted four goals in the first half of an international game for the first time since 2015 against Gibraltar.
Scotland continued to pile on the pressure after the break and Shankland should have scored his second just after the hour, but he fired wide from Kieran Tierney's centre.
Ross Stewart and George Hirst both came close in the closing stages, but the damage had already been done by Scotland, who followed up their 4-1 victory over Curacao with an equally emphatic performance here.
Elsewhere, Panama and Bosnia-Herzegovina played out a 1-1 draw at Energizer Park, with Nikola Katic's opener cancelled out by Jiovany Ramos in first-half stoppage time.
Brazil beware as McTominay and Shankland shine for scintillating Scotland
Scotland have never gone beyond the group stages in each of their eight previous appearances at the World Cup, but after scoring eight goals in their two pre-tournament matches ahead of their first outing at the finals since 1998, they may fancy their chances of rewriting history.
It was the perfect result and performance before they take on Haiti in their opening Group C game on June 14, and fellow group opposition Brazil may be worried, given Scotland netted more than twice in a game against a South American nation for the second time, after a 4-2 win against Chile in June 1977.
And their impressive attacking display was started by Shankland. He is the first Scotland player to score in three consecutive appearances for the nation since Lyndon Dykes in October 2021 (four), while only Steven Fletcher (five) and Christophe Berra (four) have scored more headed goals on record than Shankland's three.
But McTominay also had his say. Since the start of 2023, the Napoli midfielder has 16 goal contributions for Scotland (12 goals, two assists), seven more than any other player in that timeframe. He also netted his 15th goal for Scotland, with only seven players managing more in history.
It was a deserved win for Scotland, who finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 3.07 from their 20 shots, eight of which were on target, compared to Bolivia's 0.2 from their seven attempts at Angus Gunn's net.
