Tah completes Bayern switch after leaving Leverkusen
After leaving Bayer Leverkusen, Germany defender Jonathan Tah has completed a free transfer to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Jonathan Tah has signed a four-year contract with Bayern Munich after leaving Bayer Leverkusen.
The 28-year-old, who made 402 appearances for Leverkusen, has joined Bayern on a free transfer.
Tah helped Leverkusen win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2023-24, while they finished second in the league behind Bayern this term.
"I’m very happy to be at FC Bayern. I want to take on responsibility here and work hard every day so that we’re successful as a team and win lots of trophies together," Tah said.
Tah started his senior career at Hamburg and joined Leverkusen in 2015, making his Germany debut during his first year at the club and racking up 35 international appearances.
"We have acquired a player with international experience and quality, who won’t need much time to establish himself in our defence," said Christoph Freund, Bayern's sporting director.
This season, Tah recorded 2,295 passes, the fifth-highest total in the league, completing 93%.
The only prior instance on record (since 2004-05) of a Bundesliga player completing a higher share of 2,000+ passes in a single season was Tah himself in 2023-24, when 95% of his 2,185 passes found a team-mate.
This was also the fourth successive Bundesliga season in which Tah did not commit a single error leading to a goal.
