'Kane not happy under Tuchel', claims Bayern legend Matthaus
Former Bayern Munich midfielder Lothar Matthaus believes Harry Kane is not happy under England head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Lothar Matthaus claimed that Harry Kane is not happy playing under England head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel has taken charge of four games so far in the role since replacing Gareth Southgate, who left after England's defeat in the Euro 2024 final.
England have won all three competitive matches under Tuchel, but lost 3-1 to Senegal in a friendly last time out.
Kane has scored in all four of England's games under the German, the first time a player has ever netted in each of a manager's first four matches in charge of the Three Lions.
But Matthaus believes that Kane is happier at Bayern than he is with England.
Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany: "Harry Kane came away empty-handed in the 10-0 win. He may have recently scored England's 1-0 goal against Andorra, but when he's been with the national team, he always needs to be encouraged.
"At Bayern, fun, enjoyment, and attacking are the top priorities; at England, football isn't even being worked on at the moment.
"It is sad to see how professional Kane is at his job. He doesn't seem particularly happy under current coach Tuchel, just as he was under his predecessor, [Gareth] Southgate.
"His body language at Bayern is different than it is with the national team."
Kane also played under Tuchel during his first season with Bayern. In 32 league games, he scored 36 goals and registered eight assists.
The England captain scored a goal every 79 minutes and had a shot conversion rate of 24.7% in the 2023-24 season, which were better in comparison to his 2024-25 campaign under Vincent Kompany (a goal every 91.9 minutes and shot conversion rate of 22.8%).
Overall, Kane has netted 48 goals in 49 appearances under Tuchel (44 at Bayern Munich and four for England), with this his best goals per game ratio (0.98) under any manager in his entire career.
