Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Koln: Beier's stoppage-time strike breaks visitors' hearts
Borussia Dortmund looked set to be held to a goalless draw by Koln, but substitute Maximilian Beier had other ideas at Signal Iduna Park.
Maximilian Beier scored a last-gasp winner as Borussia Dortmund snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Koln.
The match looked set to be heading for a stalemate at Signal Iduna Park until the 96th minute, when substitute Beier slotted home to snatch all three points for Dortmund.
Koln had the clearest opportunity of the first half, with Said El Mala slicing wide with only Gregor Kobel to beat in the 19th minute.
Serhou Guirassy had a great chance to break the deadlock seven minutes into the second half, but shot straight at Marvin Schwabe from point-blank range.
The hosts continued to generate the greater attacking threat. Felix Nmecha had an effort tipped over, while Schwabe also denied Julian Brandt.
However, Dortmund finally grabbed the breakthrough with one of the final kicks of the game, as Fabio Silva set up fellow substitute Beier for a dramatic winner.
Data Debrief: Twenty-seventh time lucky for Dortmund
Dortmund are now unbeaten in each of their last 10 home games in all competitions.
They extended their streak courtesy of their fourth goal via substitutes in the Bundesliga this season, with no team bettering that tally.
Beier's decisive strike came from Dortmund's 27th shot of the contest, their highest tally in a single league game this term, though their cumulative expected goals tally of 1.61 shows that those chances were not of a high quality (0.05 xG per shot).
By contrast, Koln failed to record a single shot on target in a Bundesliga match for the first time since doing so against Bayer Leverkusen in March 2024.
